Diets are fattening

Okay. I just started following this blog (like, 30 minutes ago) called "diets are fattening." I love it already. I am going to try to focus on some of what she says. Basically, you have to train your body to eat like a thin person (one who stays thin naturally) and 1. eat when hungry. 2. stop when not hungry but not "full." 3. Only eat food you like. And so on and so forth. Everything I read makes sense. I don't do the "fad" diets, I have only tried the diet plans that are ways of living and not "diets" but that still tell me what I can and cannot eat. This is better.

When I first started working for BRCC, I lost like 10-15 lbs and wasn't really dieting at all. I can't remember how I did that. I know I started walking at lunch (a habit I need to resume) and I hadn't previously done that, but I really don't think I did any kind of diet or anything. Maybe I was eating like a thin person and didn't even know it! I do know I need to get a handle on my appetite. I can sit down on a sunday morning and eat an entire bag of chips just because I feel like it. Was I hungry? No. So why, then, did I eat? Shit like that.

SO here we go again. I am going to continue running though! Except I didn't today because I had planned to run at lunch but then remembered I had a leadership meeting from 3-6 and therefore couldn't. But that's okay. I don't need to stress about that either. I will run when I can. I will eat when I'm hungry. I will not worry about what I'm eating, except in the sense that I should be in the mood to eat it. Hello, sandwiches for lunch! I have missed those, and I can eat them in the car on the way to go walk! This could be a new thing. Quit dieting to get skinny and just DO.

I ran a 5k. . .and made it my bitch!

I truly had an awesome experience at that race. Not only is Girls on the Run a great organization that teaches girls the benefits of running, nutrition, and other life lessons, the race wasn't timed and finishing was the only goal! I was afraid at first that I wouldn't be as fit as I needed to be, but that fear was totally unfounded. Not only did Owen want to walk some (especially uphill--totally fine with me) but I actually felt like I could have run the entire way! I tried to be motivating and I think she had a really good time, which is what it's all about. BTW, in case I didn't mention it earlier, Owen is my 8 yr. old cousin. Super awesome kid.

So, in conclusion, this time I am going to keep running. The last 5k I did, I ran it, and then immediately quit running. Not this time! I want to keep building up my stamina and maybe even run another race sometime. A cheap one. I can run for free at home, I don't need to be paying $25-50 per race. This one was only $16. And I got to make my own tutu.

Fuck!

That subject was for Edward, who doesn't really believe it's me doing this blog until he sees extensive f-bombs. So there.

Fuck, I really have to run a 5k on Saturday? This is me beginning the freak out. I am going to run tomorrow, but I may not run again until the race, just to make sure I'm not sore or whatevs. The thing that really sucks about how well I've done through this whole process is the fact that I have not lost a goddamn pound. Seriously?!?! I hadn't been doing ANYTHING before this and I maintained better than I have the last month. Jesus. And don't give me that "muscle weighs more than fat" bullshit. Because I know how much muscle fucking weighs, and I have measured myself and almost thrown up. So don't give me that.

Okay, enough bitching. Haven't had one of those in a while, it was time! I am excited though. Can't wait to see my little cousin in her (what I imagine to be) hella cute running duds. Should be a fun time. And I have new running tights! They are cute too.

5k Week.

I can't honestly say I've finished week 6; I'm really having trouble with sustained runs. I don't know if I'm truly tiring out, or just bored as hell and wanting a change. This morning, I think I was actually tired, but yesterday I think I could have run the whole 20 minutes; I was just really sick of the monotony! I think the 5k will be better because I'll have my cousin with me, and there will be lots of runners for us to interact with, and I won't wanna look like a lazy fat-ass in front of any of them!

It's the final countdown! (I sang that song to John this morning too; he finishes school THIS WEEK!!! FOR GOOD!!!!!!)

Week 6, bitches!

I did that yesterday. I rule. After work, super tired, and having to pee. But I fucking did it! Lil' sore today, but gonna run tomorrow. Week 6, day2 is upon us, kids. One week to 5k. 7 days. Doesn't seem quite as daunting now tho!

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Week 5, day 3!

Finished week 5 today! Also, I ran this morning so didn't have to do it at lunch. That made it nice. Countdown to 5k: 10 days! I will finish week 6 and maybe start on week 7 by then! Go somewhat healthy librarian!

Running at work

It sucks, right?!?! There is no good place to change, and I spend the rest of the day not so fresh. But it is nice that I CAN run at work, for the days like today, when I could have stayed in bed all day long... And pretty much did! Week 5, day2 is done. Wooooo! 5k is next weekend. Yikes!

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Oh hey, I started week 5!

As well as I'm doing with exercise, I am totally eating like crap. Next step is to marry those two bastions of health: eating right AND exercising.
If only I worked out as much as, say, Michael phelps, then I could eat as shitty as I please! No? Damn.

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Week 4 will be my bitch tomorrow.

Finished day 2 today. Gonna finish this bitch up tomorrow! I think week 4 is one of the hardest weeks, so I look forward to finishing this ASAP.
It is not helpful that I ran today and walked the dogs, but then came home and had pizza and cheese nips. Baby steps.

Week 4, Day 1

I won't say that I made week 4, day one my bitch. . .but I did complete the entire thing, no walking during the runs! Week 4 is probably one of the hardest, because you go from 9 minutes of total running from wk. 3 right into 16 minutes of running in week 4. WTF? I did it though! And this is the first time I've run on a Monday in a long time. Usually if I don't run on Monday, it derails my entire week. So here's to what will hopefully be a very successful week for my running!

Countdown to 5k: 19 Days! Wow, that's longer than I thought! Maybe I'll be able to muscle through a good bit of it by then. Next step after that: continue to run! I have a bad habit of meeting a goal and then completely stopping. Not this time, baby!

Starting week 3!!!

It is difficult to run at work. There is no good place to change, and there isn't even a good place to run on campus so I have to go to a park. That's okay, but it makes it hard to get my run in on a lunch hour. It was raining yesterday and I couldn't run, so today I have to or my next chance will be Thursday. Grrrrr, I WILL get this shit done!

Saturday, November 10, 2012

Week 2, day 2

I totes got a runner's high today. It was super awesome. Had the park almost to myself, which was also nice. Glad to have motivation in the form of a super cute 8 year old. I am going to try to get a large group together to cheer us on during the race. She will have quite the cheering squad, but we have a big god damn family, we can do so much better! Feel free to stop by, Edward. Since you are the only local who will read this. December 8 at unca, race starts at 11. More running dets to come, hopefully positive ones!

Friday, November 9, 2012

Week 2, day 1

Yeah, that's right. I started with week 2. Week one is for pussies. And I rocked it, even with a headache. Go me! Now next step: staying with it!

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

Ack! A 5k in one month!

I now have motivation to get my ass in gear and get running again. I've been asked by my aunt if I can run a 5k with my 8 yr. old cousin on December 8. Who is going to say no to that? Of course I will! Now to get off my ass and get training! C25k, here we go again! Need to find a good book to listen to in the process. Will start blogging more frequently as events unfold ;)

Nerd Tat in action

I didn't have any pics of me on the cruise that displayed the glory of the nerdy tattoo, so here is one from my sister in law. Giving me new motivation to keep dieting. And exercising.

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Blood Type, bitches!

Now it's time to try the Blood Type diet. Because I haven't tried enough new diets this year. Also, I haven't posted in forever, so we will just start over and pretend like this is the first time I'm trying something new. Sounds like a plan.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Back to school

So the new semester has started, and I am in week 3 of Couch to 5k (yes, I have started over yet again). I have new shoes, a new bra, and a new attitude. Listening to audiobooks whilst I run has been very nice. So long as I can keep good books going (only on book 3 of Song of Ice & Fire so I have lots of hours left to go with those) I will have more of a reason to run than just getting in shape. I am going paleo again, because naturally I stopped that shit on the cruise, and it's been hard to get back to eating well. Lunchtime is going to be hard though, because I haven't packed anything, nor have I cooked shit since I got back from vacation. Not sure what my problem is, probably that I have been a very shitty grocery shopper lately, and don't have anything with which to cook. That ends this weekend!

So new goal for the semester is to run a 5k, and then keep running after. That was the problem with my last 5k in 2011; I promptly stopped running after the race was over! So by 2013, I want to be comfortable running for 30 minutes, and then I will try increasing my distance so I can have a rockin' hot bod once again.

Back from Cruising

Okay. So the diet officially ended on Thursday, July 19 in honor of "The Dark Knight Rises." As of Thursday morning, I still hadn't lost any weight but decided it no longer mattered.

Cruise day, I was able to get back to eating mostly protein and fruits and veggies, and did very well the first few days of the cruise. I didn't feel gross in my bathing suit, although I was sad not to discover any fellow Potterheads as nobody commented on the nerd tat. Then, however, I saw the pictures taken for formal night, in which I looked like a beached whale. So there went the self-control. I still exercised, but said screw it to skipping desserts.

By the last day of the cruise (Friday being the last FULL day) I was full-on fat American, eating everything in sight. Still, I got away with only a few (4) lbs. of weight gain. Today starts back. Oh wait, I had leftover Japanese fried rice for breakfast. Okay, tomorrow starts back. Basically, i'm going to be eating paleo as much as possible, with cheats reserved for weekend meals and/or special occasions at work. I am going to work to exercise more, since I have really slacked off on that. Maybe I need to join the geriatric gym again. (The YMCA here is inhabited almost exclusively by old people).

Thursday, July 19, 2012

It's almost time. . .

We have reached the point of no return! I start vacation in exactly 1.5 hours. Batman at midnight. Flight leaves tomorrow at 420 pm. Set sail at 11am Saturday!

Weight is unchanged. Hovering around 140, both with pants and completely nekkid. Oh well. I have done the best I can, save more exercise. But diet is the main driver of weight loss, and I have been awesome with that. So fuck the excess fat. I will rock the shit out of my bathing suits. And I will be showing off the nerd tat for the first time (without voluntarily showing people). It's gonna be glorious. CANNOT. WAIT.

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Ugh.

I don't even want to post anymore. I was feeling so good about myself and then I had a shitty Sunday, and feel bad now. Not sure why. Weight is the same. Measurements are the same. Surely they will both go down this week and next with no cheating. Maybe it's just the fact that I haven't exercised this week yet. I don't know. Just fucking hate feeling like I'm working so hard for nothing.

Sunday, July 1, 2012

Bathing suit time!

Today was the day I decided to try on my bathing suits. It was not a complete failure! I wasn't disgusted with the results, and if Paleo works for me, then I should be looking pretty sexy by cruise time.
My waist and hip measurements had dropped half an inch as of Friday, and my weight is stable. I am feeling quite positive today! Also, I broke down and bought the paleo cookbook, so I am super fired up about the new recipes to try and have renewed motivation!

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

23days!!!

Getting down to the wire! My randomly conceived plan of paleo is going good so far. And I have done yoga twice this week.
Weight is the same, measurements have gone down slightly.
Insanity starts this weekend! Hopefully I will not die in the process. Am terrified.
Borrowed lots of fun clothes from a friend so I will at least look snazzy on board, no matter what my weight is. Here's hoping I can do what I have been trying to do for 2 years: lose this last 5 goddamn pounds!

Monday, June 25, 2012

And now for something completely different. . .

Okay, not really. But I have been thinking for a while about the Paleo diet; mostly because I miss meat and eggs. So today I looked up the basics, and I can still eat fruit. Plus I get to eat meat. And eggs. So I think I'm gonna try it. Mindy Kaling said in her book that she thinks fad diets are like a fun hobby for lots of women. I couldn't agree more! I love trying new diets in the hopes that one of them will stick. As long as they are diets that allow me to eat as much as I want, I love them. So we will try Paleo, but I think I will still eat beans because they are healthy and because I have pinto beans soaking at home. Homemade re-fried beans, ya'll! They will go great with an egg on top in the morning. Yummmmm.

Weight today: 140-141. The scale looked like it really wanted to tell me I was 140 but it couldn't quite be sure. Exercise will get amped up this week with the Insanity videos. We should get them on Thursday, I'm so scared!

One Friggin' month

In lieu of posting every day until the cruise, I'm only going to post if I have something to share. There's not much to share today other than that we are at the one-month mark. We head to Ft. Lauderdale on July 20, and set sail on the 21st. CANNOT WAIT.

Today: Weight: 141 (n.p.) Pissed there doesn't seem to be any weight falling off of me.
Food: I have been so good. I didn't even cheat at grandma's on Sunday. Dear body, release thine fat!
Exercise: Um. Oh. Right. This could be the problem.

Oh well. If I don't look entirely perfect on the cruise, I can live with the pleasant thought that I will still be one of the best looking bitches on the ship. And I have big boobs. So suck it, skinny girls!

Monday, June 18, 2012

32 Days!

I am so not blogging every day until the cruise. But here's my status right now:
Pissed off. Weight is up a few pounds, energy is down, and eating has continued to be awesome. Son of a bitch! The last 10 pounds is definitely the hardest to lose. My body is clinging to that shit like me on a zipline. For dear life.

Anywho, I joined a weight loss team at work where we have to record our weight and exercise and stuff, so that way more than just Edward will see what I'm doing and I'll be more accountable than to just myself. I'm part of a team now, ya'll!

Friday, June 15, 2012

35 and counting!

Breakfast: apple and coffee
Lunch: gluten free pasta with tomatoes and mushrooms
Weight: not up for discussion, although the measurements have gone down
Exercise: maybe
Dinner last night turned out to be chicken and squash that was delicious. Paired with wine and True Blood and more wine made it a fine evening! No snacking or anything! Dieting is easier when your husband isn't eating chips in front of you.

Thursday, June 14, 2012

T-minus 36 Days

Breakfast: Salad with hard-boiled egg, salsa. Added some ranch cause I'm sassy like that. Coffee.
Lunch: Tofu-cashew sandwich from the Co-op. DE-LICIOUS!
Baby Shower: Fruit only. Go me! I said "Back off with that cake, woman!"
Weight: 141 nekkid. IE: haven't lost a goddamn pound.
Dinner: Whatever my loving husband made for me. Which probably involves spaghetti, but we have whole grain noodles. He's dieting too, so it shouldn't be too bad.
After Dinner: WINE!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe a bananer if I get hungry.
Exercise: What?

Also of note: I was told I look skinny today. So something is happening, even if the scale is being a bastard.

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

37 Days

Today, Breakfast: Salad with black beans and salsa. Grapefruit Juice. Coffeeeeee.
Exercise: Dog walk with more walking after. They can't go as far as me anymore.
Weight: 142-ish with pants. My scale sucks and I have no idea how much I really weigh.
Lunch: More split pea stuff. Yum!
Dinner: Probably a piece of fruit again.
No snack today, but I still have some sunflower seeds. And may break down and buy a soda. Diet soda, that is.

Also, last night when I got home I walked for about 20 minutes until it got too dark to see. So that's something.
I will try and keep these posts more interesting than this one. Today it's just the facts, ma'am.

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Tuesday, 38 days until CRUISE

So far today:
Food: Breakfast, black beans and a scrambled egg with salsa. Coffee.
Snack: Apple (to be eaten)
Weight: 143 with pants on.
Exercise: Walked the dogs. Progress! Something is better than nothing. I am still waiting on John to get the Insanity videos from someone at work and I plan to do those at night, because my ladies really need a walk in the mornings. And there is so not time for both. I like sleep too much for that.

Lunch: Vegetarian Split pea soup-type thing that I invented. Delicious!
Dinner: (hasn't happened yet) likely a piece of fruit. Maybe a glass of wine. Probably a glass of wine.

Monday, June 11, 2012

39 days to cruise

Food: broccoli and shirataki noodles with salsa for breakfast. Subway veggie flatbread for lunch. Sunflower seeds (lots) for snack. Orange and some buttermilk for dinner (not in the same sitting)
Weight: undisclosed cause I so didn't weigh after the weekend I've had.
Exercise: none.
Well shit, one out of three ain't bad!
Stay tuned for my progress. I am motivated but still fucking hate working out!

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

It's been one of those weeks. . .

We all have them. I just don't fucking feel like exercising. I don't fucking feel like cooking, so if I eat healthily, it's entirely by accident. Next week, however, I have to get my ass in gear. The husband is going to start dieting and exercising in preparation for the cruise, and I refuse to be shown up. I can't decide if blogging more will help make sure I exercise or not. I will try to blog something every day next week and see if that is any motivation at all. Probably not, but saying I'm going to blog is a whole lot easier than saying I'm going to work out every day!

The unveiling of the nerd tat!

Here it is, the moment you've all (edward) been waiting for! The Deathly Hallows, with the chapter stars in the corners.

Nerd tat time!

At the tat place now, nervous as hell. Stand by for pic!

Thursday, May 24, 2012

2 months?!? Yikes!

I gotta get this shit going. 2 months until cruise and I'm so not losing any weight. I am, however, exercising and (somewhat) eating healthily. Guess I need to step up both areas. I wanna look hotttt on the ship. And I want an excuse to buy a new dress and other clothes. And possibly a new bathing suit. But let's not get crazy.

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

(Somewhat) starting my summer off right.

Started working 10 hour days this week, with Fridays off. My intention was to get up every morning and run. I actually did that this morning, and it was lovely. Discovered I can still listen to an audiobook while running, so hopefully if i get a good book going i can run further. Did have mcdonald's for lunch, but had a very healthy breakfast and dinner. And have made healthy lunches for the rest of the week.

Countdown to nerd tat: T-minus 3 days!

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

20 minutes. Tomorrow.

First 20-minute run tomorrow. Even though I ran today, I won't have another chance until Sunday so I'm going to go ahead and get that shit out of the way tomorrow.

For those of you who are counting, this is officially the 3rd time I am doing the Couch to 5k program, but only the second time I've gotten this far! Because I rule. And I have a cruise in t-minus 9 weeks. Stay tuned for a description of how much running for 20 minutes straight sucks.

Monday, May 14, 2012

Who finished week 5 today? This girl.

Lunchtime runs are really great, although I can't do them all the time. But on days when there are no students and my appearance doesn't matter, I love the lunchtime run. Next week I start working 10 hour days for the summer so will have to get up 2 hours earlier in order to get a run in before work. Stay tuned for that fun journey!
2 months until the cruise and 10 pounds to lose. Totally doable. Just had an apple instead of cheese toast. I can do this.

Also, possibly getting a tattoo in 2 weeks after talking about it for 10 years. Gonna try to tone up for that as well. Somewhat healthy sexy librarian in a bikini with nerd tattoo, here we come!

Saturday, May 12, 2012

Week 5

Week 5, day 2 of couch to 5k today. This was actually the first day I couldn't complete the last run, although I did run during the cool-down to make up for it. That's pretty good for 5 weeks in! Last time I did this program, I pretty much felt like I was going to die during every run. Not so this time, perhaps running is growing on me? Also taking into account the massive hangover I had today, it's quite amazing I went out to run at all!
I am going to kick this program's ass and get skinny. Probably in that order.

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Running=success

So tomorrow I will finish week 3 of the couch to 5k. This week, so far I have brought a healthy lunch every day and had a modest dinner. I treated myself tonight to some gluten free crackers. So naturally, I have lost weight this week. When I run, I can feel my legs and back toning up, and my measurements back that up! As long as I can drag my ass out of bed to do this, I have an easier time being good the rest of the day. I mean, seriously. Who "cheats" with crackers? I am rocking the shit out of health this week!

That being said, my birthday is saturday so I really am going to let it all hang out food and drink-wise. But i'm only going to allow it for that one day, then it's back to the grind. Promise.

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Time to get in shape. No, really, I have a cruise in 3.5 months!

Back to being good. For real this time! I know everyone feels the same way, so I don't feel bad. We all make resolutions to eat right and exercise and are awesome for a while, then start to slack off. I am the queen of this, as evidenced by my previous posts! But I started back on the couch to 5k program today and am going to have a running buddy through the magic of technology in the form of my friend Katy. We're totally going to virtually kick each others asses and publicly mock each other on facebook if we don't run. Okay, maybe not but I think this will help. Also, I'm back to eating well during the week, and my husband and I have made a pact to only eat out once every 2 weeks. We'll see how long that lasts...

Monday, April 2, 2012

Grrr

Despite my best efforts, I've eaten like shit the last few weeks. Okay, so they were clearly not my best efforts. But here's the thing. When you live with someone who doesn't eat the same way as you, it's very hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. John and I both eat pretty good during the week because we go our separate ways food wise, but when the weekend hits, we're tired, we haven't really seen each other all week, and we just wanna eat some fucking crap (another fbomb for edward).
However, I do seem to be maintaining my weight somewhat because during the week I lose whatever I've gained on the weekend. And then I go to a conference where I blow it again with some delicious cookies and other crap. Oh well. It's a journey without end.

Monday, March 19, 2012

And now for a message from the librarian part of this blog

There is NOTHING like a good audiobook to keep you moving. 11/22/63 is doing that for me right now. I don't want to stop listening. So I keep walking. I would have walked farther this morning but I had to get ready for work. But I got in a good 45-50 minutes of walking this morning, and of course needed to continue the story at lunch so walked about 30 more minutes at Carl Sandburg. All while listening to an awesome book. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books also did that for me.

I'm going to need to build up my store of books so I always have something that will make me want to get up early in the morning for to walk. Especially this summer when I will be coming into work 2 hours earlier (and getting Fridays off).

Monday, March 12, 2012

Mark it, dude.

I am going to do pilates when I get home. I am going to do pilates when I get home. I am going to do pilates when I get home.

Lather, rinse, repeat. I WILL get that shit done! No more fucking around! (That was for you, Edward, who wants more f-bombs in my blog ;)

Had Zaxby's for lunch, but I'm going to have a banana for dinner, so that will hopefully balance things out. Also read an interesting article on NPR about eating meat:
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2012/03/12/148457233/death-by-bacon-study-finds-eating-meat-is-risky

Pretty sure Zaxby's chicken fingers count as "processed" ;)

Anyways, it's a new week, which means new beginning! Did well last week, FAIL for the weekend, so I can only hope to be somewhat good this week. Party this weekend, so it naturally won't count.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Still truckin'

Pilates again this morning! Vigorous walk yesterday! Bag of m&m's today! But that's okay. I had oatmeal for breakfast and my lentil thing for lunch. Will do my best to have a healthy dinner, so the candy won't matter in the grand scheme of things. Probably gonna have sushi tomorrow, which is still quite good for you (especially if I get it with brown rice, which I definitely won't).

Also, I'm making paella for date night tomorrow, which I've decided we should do more eating-in for date night. It's gonna be legen (wait for it) dary!

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

Back to it - update

Ah, so my lentils came out delici-oso, I did Pilates this morning and walked at lunch. I'm still pretty full from those beans, and so I might just eat an apple and maybe some cucumber for dinner. Today was a huge WIN for me getting back on track!

I did consider going to the vending machine for some chocolate, but, luckily for my body, I didn't have any cash. And the craving passed. Yay me!

Monday, March 5, 2012

And I'm getting back

This is the base to my lunches for the rest of the week: onions, carrots, celery, bok choy and garlic. Gonna add a bag of lentils and vegetable broth to it. Yum!!! Maybe that pizza really did do something positive for me! Might post another pic when it's done if it still looks yummy, but lentils usually don't :)

Ready, set, ohhh. . .

I'm ready to get going again. What's that, pizza for lunch? Le sigh. Tomorrow is a new day. And I know I'm not the only one. But I have felt disgusting since lunch, so I think that may have been the catalyst needed to get me back on track. Or, something. Sounds good, right?!

Thursday, March 1, 2012

I said "somewhat" for a reason. . .

Yes, I am trying to be healthy. Yes, I am trying to eat nutrient-dense food and exercise regularly. But clearly, I'm not going to be uppity about it because right now, all I want to do is go buy a pack of m&m's from the vending machine. Apparently I've become addicted. Usually I crave chips or other salty snacks. The last 2 weeks it's been m&m's.

Being healthy is hard. This is my journey.

Monday, February 27, 2012

Staying on Track

I clearly need to post more because I've really gotten off track. Making public my journey to be healthier helps with this, so I'll start posting more for my lone reader :)

Food wise, I'm being pretty good. I'm taking the weekends off for the most part, but I've been good about eating vegan-ish during the week. My weight is stable, but not losing any more. Perhaps this is the time to get back to my working out! I was being so good with pilates and walking, and then I had one day where I didn't do it, and now it's been about 2 weeks since I've done any pilates at all. I have been walking, but that's about it. I need a better audiobook for that. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is just not cutting it.

Back to the grind

It's amazing how easy it is to get out of a routine. Last week was a fail week for me, both with eating and working out. Now it's a new week, a new start, and already I didn't do pilates this morning. I did, however, take Daisy for a walk and I walked at lunch, but I'd still like myself better if I had done my pilates. It's like I can actually see my gut getting bigger by not doing it. Or maybe that's just an innate girl thing. Either way, I'm working on doing better!

The biggest problem is sleep. If I don't sleep well the night before, then I don't get up to work out. Since I don't have to be at work until noon, it is very easy to work out in the morning. It's also easy to use the lack of sleep excuse. I'm not sure why I don't sleep well sometimes, but last night I sure as shit never went to sleep. My brain just doesn't turn off sometimes, and that sucks.

Friday night!

Time to cheat with alcohol. I'm sick of wine so I'm doing beer. And I don't care! If you can't cheat on your diet then there is no point to it. I will renew my efforts next week and it will be all the better because i got to enjoy myself this weekend. And there it is. Also, i had a bad week but didn't gain any weight, so i consider that a huge WIN

Bless me father, for I have sinned. . .

Well, it all started with a student bringing me Rolos for Valentine's day. Then I decided I should take myself out to lunch (Atlanta Bread veggie sandwich on 9-grain bread. . .with chips) and then when I got back to work, I remembered I had some cash in my wallet, so I promptly bought some m&ms. Damn, that didn't last long!

It's okay though. I know it's not the end of the world, and I can do better tomorrow. Overall, I have been doing this diet for 3 weeks, and that is the most I've cheated, which still isn't terribly bad (considering what it could be!)

So all in all, go me! Now if only I can get back into my pilates routine I'll be doing spectacularly. 5 more pounds, and I might even be ready to get my tattoo. Maybe.

Healthy eating = hangover city

Ever since I've been eating healthy, my hangovers have gotten ridiculously bad. Why is that? I guess because I've been cleansing my body of toxins that when I put them back in with booze, it's worse for me the next day. Will this stop me? Hell no!

But maybe I'll try to drink a bit less, and not mix my poisons so much :) Wine is good for you, after all. Totally.

New day

It's snowing, so naturally I want to stay inside all day, but I promised Daisy we would go on a nice, long walk. I also need to do some pilates because i've been suuuuuuper slack on that this week. The good news: only a slight headache this morning as opposed to the raging fit of nausea that was my hangover last weekend.
Stay tuned to see if i actually accomplish my goals today!

Setbacks

Who knew that sugar-free Reese's cups still had 180 calories per serving?!?! I may as well have gone full tilt on those. Oh well. I did only have one serving. What's nice is that I know I can still go home and load up on veggies for dinner and have an orange for dessert (got a sore throat coming on at any rate) and I haven't completely screwed up my day. Perhaps I'll do some Pilates for good measure.

I haven't weighed myself yet this week but I feel confident I've lost a pound or two. If I had a digital scale, I'd know for sure, but since I don't, we'll settle for "it looks like it's gone down!"

Too big, too small

It's official. Everything i own is either too big or too small. Naturally, i don't want to buy new clothes if i'm going to continue to lose weight, but i really hate looking frumpy in baggy pants and loose-fitting shirts. Oh well. I really enjoy this healthy way of eating. As Dr. Fuhrman says, "it's almost impossible to eat too much food, only too much of the wrong food."
I concur.

Doesn't get much healthier than this

What was supposed to be chili turned into this veggie-type stew due to the fact that I bought diced tomatoes instead of crushed. So i improvised and added the rest of the veggies from my fridge and some beans. Initial taste test was DELICIOUS!

Vegan?!?!? Me?!?!?

So I kind of became a vegan. Not really, but kind of. It's so embarrassing. I loooooove meat, eggs and cheese.  And I've spent the last week not eating any of those things. I make fun of vegans all the time too. Also, it's only been a week. So I can't very well say this is my lifestyle now. But I did lose 5 lbs. And I can eat as many fruits and veggies as I can pack in my piehole, so it's really not that hard. And I do understand that it's much healthier to eat this way.

How did this start?

"Eat to Live" by Joel Fuhrman. Actually, he says this is a "nutritarian" way of life, not strictly vegan. I am loving being able to eat fruit again. Stupid "low-carb" diets. Of course fruit is good for you. White flour and sugar are what's bad for you. So I'm cutting out all that shit. And trying, at least during the week, not to eat any animal products. Special occasions, like Superbowl Sunday, for example, don't count. And date night doesn't either. But other than that.
Yeah.
